First Corinthians 16:13-14 is one of my favourite Bible passages with a lot packed into it. This is primarily addressed to men but some lessons can also be applied to women.
1) Be watchful
We need to be on the lookout for adversity and the fiery darts of the devil. When we fail to be vigilant, it makes it easier for Satan to get his way. This is particularly true in known areas of temptation in our lives. In order to be victorious and overcome the sin in our lives, we need to be watchful so that we can fight back the powers of darkness as opposed to being overcome by them.
2) Stand firm in the faith
It’s very easy to waver and to go off the path into the dark especially in the world and sadly in the mainstream church riddled with compromise. We need to stand strong on the word of God and not budge.
3) Act like men
Too many young guys these days act like a bunch of wimps. They can’t change a tire or hold a door open for a girl let alone take responsibility for their actions or make important decisions on their own two feet. These guys are the type whose mums still make their beds and pickup their smelly socks off the floor. Don’t be that type of guy. Act like a real man!
4) Be strong
Both physically and spiritually. Men need to be protectors, leaders and providers. We need to balance working out physically as well as spiritually.
5) Let all that you do be done in love
It’s so easy to be full of malice and hate but that’s not the way Christ wants us to be. We can have truth without love and love without truth. We need to have a balance of both – and that only comes through the grace of God.
