Isaiah 53:4-5 (NASB) 4 Surely our griefs He Himself bore, And our sorrows He carried; Yet we ourselves esteemed Him stricken, Smitten of God, and afflicted. 5 But He was pierced through for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; The chastening for our well-being fell upon Him, And by His scourging we are healed.
In verse 10 of the same chapter is says: “But the Lord was pleased to crush Him”!
Jesus Christ the holy, spotless, lamb of God was crushed (not lightly bruised) for us! He drank the full cup of wrath poured out by the Father… He satisfied justice to appease the Father’s wrath. Through that, God can now be just and the justifier of the sinner. What immense and amazing love for us sinners! Let us show our thankfulness to Him in the way we live everyday.
21 But now the righteousness of God apart from the law is revealed, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, 22 even the righteousness of God, through faith in Jesus Christ, to all and on all who believe. For there is no difference; 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, 25 whom God set forth as a propitiation by His blood, through faith, to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His forbearance God had passed over the sins that were previously committed, 26 to demonstrate at the present time His righteousness, that He might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.
I like how Brother Paul Washer puts it in this short but powerful sermon jam:
