This is where I post my random thoughts and quotes on all kinds of issues that come to mind…
It amazes me how the world can think themselves so happy without Christ. But their happiness is fake and it fades. It’s kind of like a mask that they put on. Deep down these people really are lost… eternally lost and desperately needy of Christ. True happiness is found in the person of Jesus Christ who loved us and gave Himself for us. True happiness is found by living for Him in obedience everyday.
As a nation we are materially blessed – to the point of affluence… to the point of extreme selfishness or perhaps beyond that. I would also say that we are totally impoverished in spirit and morally bankrupt before God. We have a real problem and only God can fix that problem. Our nation needs to repent. Kids in Africa and India are DYING from starvation right now and meanwhile we can dump millions of tons of EXCESS food into the ocean every day and yet claim there isn’t enough food in the world – what a big fat lie! Here in Australia we don’t know what true poverty is… we don’t have an idea of what it truly is like. True poverty is an 80+ year old gentleman who cannot walk, crawling on his hands and knees many kilometres to work (receiving only a meagre salary for his efforts) to provide for his disabled son and sick wife (my parents saw this in real life and that wasn’t in Australia). I’ve seen true poverty too myself whilst overseas. Back here, we can have nice cars, houses and have and do all manner of things yet people in third world countries don’t even have the basics. All I can say is that God’s heart must be very grieved whilst professing Christians stand by and do nothing meanwhile wallowing in prosperity and sickening apathy… while they’re playing their footy and singing songs to Jesus on Sunday and all the while thinking that He’s pleased with them. God IS NOT pleased with them! He couldn’t care less whether they have nice cars and houses, whether they are #1 on their footy team, or whether they have high self-esteem, or whether their checkbooks are balanced… what He cares about most is that they are walking in obedience toward Him… whether they are living out Christian charity… whether they are loving their neighbour as themselves… whether they are being selfless instead of selfish…Does it have to take something like the unprecedented floods in NSW and Tassie to make people really realise what they have… the stuff they take for granted on a daily basis which are now gone? Sadly history tells us that the only time apathetic people are brought to their knees is when they lose everything they take for granted. Nothing happens ‘accidentally’. God is in control of everything and I’m quite certain that this is His judgment, it’s a wake up call for all of Australia and I’m pretty sure it’s only the beginning. The time to repent is now. Be thankful to God for what you have, that’s all I can say. (Written on 6/06/16)
When we realise the enormity of our sin and our fallen state before a Holy God, the amazing love and power of Christ manifested in His willingness to die on the Cross for us should really strike us hard.
It doesn’t matter whether we think we know God. It matters whether He knows us! It matters whether He recognises us as His Child.
Of ourselves we are nothing. Absolutely nothing. All our good works are as filthy rags (Isa 64:6). In and through Christ, EVERYTHING!
We need less of ourselves and more of Christ.
Let our lives be praise. Not just on Sunday….not just on Wednesday nights. Everyday!
We are all on this earth for a purpose. It is our job to find out what that purpose is. In a broad sense, it is to glorify the One who put us here!
I got angry today. I am a rotten sinner! God thank you for your abundant grace and mercy!
When we go through a difficult patch in life, our faithful Heavenly Father is there to bring us through. Praise Him for His tender mercies!
We need not worry about tomorrow because God is already there!
I see a world desperately lost… desperately needy of Christ’s salvation.
God’s grace is manifested in our times of weakness!
Fear not because God is in control. If He is to be the Captain of your life, then hand the controls totally over to Him!
The more I think of the sin in my life, the more it makes me appreciate Christ’s sacrifice for me.
I felt down today, but after I spent some time studying the Scriptures, contemplating on the enormous love and mercy of God and communing with Him in prayer, I felt better.
When I read of the persecution of Christians in the Middle East, my own petty problems suddenly dissolve away.
Walking the Narrow Way isn’t easy. Nobody said it would be except for Joel Osteen, Benny Hinn and other false teachers who make an occupation of tickling people’s ears and sending them to the very gates of Hell!
Faith is like a plant. Water it and it will grow. Nourish it and it will be strong.
There is more grace in Christ than sin in us.
I am glad my faith does not rest on fluid, transient people but rather on an all-sufficient, all-powerful, almighty, unchanging God.
The issue of abortion is very real. Every year more than 100,000 innocent unborn babies are cold-bloodedly murdered in the womb each year in Australia alone. Professing Christians need to stand up for these innocent lives… the voiceless… the defenceless…who have just as much right to live as any one of us. Instead, a blind eye is turned toward them. This is a terrible blight on our society. It is yet another sign of serious moral bankruptcy. I’m sure God’s heart is grieved… very grieved at this atrocity and so should we be!
The mainstream medical establishment tells us that these unborn babies are “fetuses” and that they are nothing more than a bunch of cells randomly thrown together by chance. This is the result of flawed evolutionary thinking and sadly many Christians have been sold this big fat lie. We are told in Psalm 139:13-16 that God fashioned us while were in the womb. We were skillfully put together. We are fearfully and wonderfuly made. We were created! We were not just a bunch of cells put together somehow by some evolutionary process.
13 For You formed my inward parts;
You covered me in my mother’s womb.
14 I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;[b]
Marvelous are Your works,
And that my soul knows very well.
15 My frame was not hidden from You,
When I was made in secret,
And skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.
16 Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed.
And in Your book they all were written,
The days fashioned for me,
When as yet there were none of them.
And the medical and scientific establishment gets so surprised when they find out (through “scientific” methods)that life begins at conception and that the unborn actually feel excruciating pain when they get torn into pieces… when they get burned in acid… when they are left in a plastic bucket to die alone. Do people suddenly gain a sense consciousness and sensation the moment they vacate the womb? No! Again, the result of seriously flawed evolutionistic thinking and evil corruption on the part of the establishment for attempting to cover up these facts that we Christians should already know as facts because we are created in the image of God. These people are wallowing in sin and they need to repent of this clearly barbaric abomination. Their actions have dire consequences. God will hold them accountable one day and He will hold professing Christians accountable for doing nothing and just standing by. I am reminded of Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s words: “Silence in the face of evil is itself evil: God will not hold us guiltless. Not to speak is to speak. Not to act is to act.” He couldn’t have said it better. (Written on 8/06/16)
The Christian faith should not and must not be confined to the four walls of a church building. When it does, it has lost its effectiveness… it’s light and saltiness! Christianity must be practiced everyday so that the world may see Christ in us and glorify Him!
God accepts us sinners just as we are but He doesn’t allow us to stay there. Let me give you an analogy. Let’s say a shepherd loses one of his sheep. He goes to great lengths to find it. Finally when the wayward lamb is found, he plucks it from the briars that enslave it and lovingly brings it to his bosom. It’s the same way with God when He deals with sinners. He finds us dirty, rotten wretches, He accepts us, but he will not allow us to stay in sin. He wants us to be reconciled to Himself.
God’s grace is sufficient for us… even in our times of difficulty… even in our times of weakness.
Something I’ve been learning this week is that God gives joy… much joy to those who seek to fully trust him! Psalm 37:4 “Delight yourself also in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.” Let us serve Him with all our hearts… with our everything! Let’s serve him with nothing held back.
This life is only a vapour… like a gust of wind it comes and goes. It is full of problems, pain, hurt, tragedy, injustice, toil and tears. God has put us on this planet for a short time. He has given each one of us a purpose for living. It is our responsibility to find out what that purpose is. In a broad sense it is to glorify Him in all that we do. Our lives are not our own! We are bought with a price, we are Christ’s! Let us live each day to the fullest, let us make a difference in this world, let us impact the lives of others, let us do things that really matter – that have eternal, longlasting value, let us make the most of this life for His glory! When our time is up, will our Master find us faithful? Will he say “Well done good and faithful servant, enter into your eternal rest!”? What a glory it is to know that life on this earth is only temporary before spending eternity with our Lord and Saviour, Creator, Redeemer and King of All!
The Gospel is not 4 spiritual laws. It is the entire Bible. It has the power to truly transform your life. Note the word transform. It won’t be an insignificant encounter, it won’t be a petty thing. The true Gospel will turn you around 180 degrees.
The Christian life is not an easy road. It is a steep, winding, harrowing, narrow way that we must walk. We must take up our cross daily. We must live in obedience to Jesus Christ and Him only!
My blood boils when I hear Joel Osteen. He thinks God has blessed his ministry, yet he preaches a message of “me, me, me”, Your Best Life Now and building up your self esteem that is so totally foreign to God. Nothing Osteen says comes from the Bible and if it does, it is twisted… absolutely twisted. He captivates people with his smiley, charming personality that makes them feel good and get all warm and fuzzy inside. His messages are based on earthly philosophies, humanistic teachings and are never ever centred on the word of God in fact everything he preaches is contrary to what God has to say about the Christian life. His messages are so earthly minded… so carnally minded… so self-oriented. The bottom line is that he is preaching a false Gospel… a false message of hope… a message of TOTAL HERESY! He is a wolf disguised in sheep skin and he will undergo greater condemnation (James 3:1) because he has brought and is bringing countless people into serious error – in fact to the very gates of Hell!
There is nothing good in us! It really doesn’t matter what preachers like Joel Osteen say. The Bible (which is the final, infallible authority on everything in life) tells us that all our good works are as filthy rags before Christ (Isa 64:6).
If a preacher is not preaching a Christ centred, Biblically sound message then he is a false teacher and you had better run away – literally – for this man is child of Satan and will do everything to take you with him to Hell!
When you have a church using carnal, fleshly means to keep people there, then we have a real problem… a very real problem because nowhere do we find in Scripture God commanding us to use worldly entertainment to fill our churches. Nowhere do we find in Scripture, the concept of people being filled with themselves instead of Christ! God is not interested in church buildings being filled, what he wants to see is true repentance, true transformation, true sanctification, true worship. What He wants most is people following hard after Him in the way He has commanded them to!
The prosperity Gospel is no Gospel at all… it is totally false because it is offering people what they crave naturally as sinful, fallen human beings instead of giving them what God wants! You don’t have to be born again to be wealthy and live “Your Best Life Now” so therefore you don’t have to be converted to be saved by the prosperity Gospel.
Preachers are not called to be spin doctors or marketing executives when it comes to delivering the Word of God. Instead they are called to be faithful messengers of what has already been said by God and they need to deliver these messages just the way He wants it… unchanged… in full… not watered down… 100% uncompromised!
The liberals’ idea of “tolerance” is one-sided. Somehow it is ok for them to spew forth their hate for anything and everything that they oppose and it is ok for them to silence the opposing side yet they don’t want to hear a thing we have to say and yet it is somehow wrong if we try to engage in principled debate with them. Doesn’t sound like “tolerance” and “free-speech” to me at all! Essentially they promote freedom of opinion unless they disagree with that opinion. Freedom of their opinion and not yours. Wow, talk about acceptance which seems to be one of their top buzzwords. Not!
Our churches are spiritually and morally destitute. Oh how we need revival so much… the very breath of God to move and breathe upon us and make these dead men live!
Too many people today make up a God of their imaginations… make up their own beliefs and standards but the Bible says that there is a way that seems right to a man but the end thereof are the ways of death.
I want you to ask yourself one question, “Is God being glorified by my life? Is He being honoured in every thing I do, say, feel and think?”
God has called all of us who profess to be Christians to witness because we are ambassadors… we represent Him! Even though we feel inadequate. Even though we feel ineloquent. Look at Moses in the Old Testament. He felt ineloquent but God gave Him the grace and power to overcome His difficulty. God’s grace is sufficient for you, His strength will be perfected in your weakness. He can help you overcome your ineloquence, your feelings of inadequacy, timidness perhaps… No matter how small or simple your message is, God can use it to plant a seed in the other person’s heart. He can use anything if you only will say “Here am I Lord, use me!”. Be encouraged brothers and sisters!
One of the greatest evidences that someone is truly saved is that he hates and abhors the sin in his life… that is true repentance!
Many modern churches right here in Australia look just like Disneyland because they are full of worldly entertainment… because they give you everything that your carnal little heart desires.
You cannot claim to be a Child of God and yet live all the days of your life like a little demon. You are either truly saved or not saved at all! There is no such thing as falling away!
Yes the Bible is “radical” – in the real sense that it is counter-cultural. It WILL offend the unregenerate man and his culture. It’s not going to give you that warm fuzzy feeling in the pit of your stomach. It’s going to challenge you! If we profess to be followers of Christ, then we need to be counter-cultural… we need to be “radical”. That means hating the things God hates, loving the things that He loves, having a desire to grow in holiness, a desire not to be like the rest of the world, not to be like the great majority of Christians, not to be like pop idols and celebs but to be like Jesus Christ!
We must always be honest with ourselves and ask “Who am I serving: The world, peers, money, self-driven ambitions and desires or God?” God must be the number one priority in our lives otherwise we should not even bother asking his will if we are walking in complete disobedience. Let me say that again, “If God is not the number one priority in your life, then you should not even bother asking for His will if you’re walking in complete disobedience.”
I don’t want just any wisdom, I want God-driven wisdom!
No one is “good” except for Christ! As depraved wretches before a Holy God, we should not even dare to call ourselves “good”! All our good works are as filthy rags (Isa 64:60). There is nothing good in us… not one single bit! So bad things never happen to good people, rather bad things happen to bad people. The only time a “bad” thing ever happened to a good person was 2,000 years ago and He volunteered! This person was Jesus Christ the holy, spotless, sinless Lamb of God, offered up as a sacrifice for our sins. He who knew no sin was offered up as sin for us! He was CRUSHED for our iniquities. He took upon himself the full cup of wrath poured out by God the father… the wrath that we so justly and rightfully deserved! He was forsaken. He was mocked. He was ridiculed… for us! The amazing love of God should melt our hearts and cause us to fall down in appreciation and gratitude for what He has done for us.. to love Him unreservedly for He is worthy!
When you look at the world through an evolutionary mindset or worldview it becomes apparent that the animal kingdom is more important than humankind which is clearly contrary to what the Bible teaches. Humans are the pinnacle of God’s creation – we are made in the image of God, animals are not! Because of this evolutionary mindset, human life becomes devalued and in the context of the unborn child, it is nothing more than a bunch of cells randomly thrown together. And you can argue all you like, and you breathe out as much hot air as you like but you cannot argue against Almighty God, the one who cannot lie and the one who never ever changes!
The great majority of people and unfortunately many professing Christians see Jesus Christ as an “addition” to their lives instead of the centre of their lives. If Christ is not Lord of your entire life then you have a real problem… you need to examine yourself in light of Scripture and get on your knees in humble repentance before God.
The fear of God is something that is so absent from our contemporary culture today. If more people feared God with Holy fear then there would be less perverseness and sin in this nation of ours. If more preachers feared God enough to preach solid Biblical truth instead of preaching whimsical little novels or trying to be “relevant”, then our churches would not be in the sorry state they are in today. Sadly this is not the case. Romans 3:18 “There is no fear of God before their eyes.” Proverbs 14:12 “There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death.”
God owes us nothing! Nothing at all! It is us as wretched fallen sinners who owe God our lives!
Modern “Christianity” focuses on filling people with themselves instead of filling people with Christ!
It doesn’t matter whether you think something is the will of God or whether you think you’re doing the will of God when it is contrary to what the Word of God teaches!
I want to be so filled with Christ. I want to be emptied of all that is of myself and be so filled with Him… filled with the Holy Spirit!
We aren’t able to truly understand the Power of the Cross until we really understand the enormity of the sin in our life and how that put us at enmity with God!
No church will be perfect because they are all filled with wretched sinners. The problem is not that a church is not perfect. The problem is when a church is deaf to the teachings of God’s word… teachings such as holiness, walking the Narrow Way, repentance, the judgment of God and the list could go on and on.
Throw yourself in total dependence upon Christ. Put your faith and trust in Him because in and of your own self there is no strength… there is no power!
The amazing love of God should melt our hearts and cause us to fall down in appreciation and gratitude for what He has done for us… to love Him unreservedly for He is worthy!
Jesus Christ saved us by Himself (He was the only one who could do it), for Himself (for His Glory) and from Himself (His wrath). Isn’t that amazing?
Christ became the very object of wrath of the Father. He bore that unfathomable wrath that we justly and rightfully deserved because of His immense love for us!
God has a sovereign plan for each one of our lives. Though we may not understand it, it is in our best interest to follow God’s guidance. If we don’t, then we may walk off the trail into the dark and miss His best for us.
The Gospel has a two-fold purpose: 1) to highlight the depravity of mankind and our need for repentance and 2) magnify Christ and glorify His name.
Everything we do must glorify God, if it doesn’t then chuck it out.
Today’s culture does not dictate truth, God dictates truth!
Whatever you do in life, you have to think about whether it brings glory to God and furthers His Kingdom because after all, your allegiance and responsibility is to Christ and Him alone. Your time is not your time. Your money is not your money. Your possessions are not your possessions. They are all Christ’s.
It is imperative that you make Christ Lord of your life not just saviour. You need to surrender everything to Him. Your life is no longer your life, it is now His life. Your time is no longer your time, it is now His time. Your possessions are no longer your possessions, they are now His possessions. Your future is no longer your future, it is now His future. Your treasure is no longer your treasure, it is now His treasure. And you have now transferred all that you are and all that you have to all that He is. You are now His Servant and He is now your Master.
True peace in this world won’t happen till Christ returns because there is a problem with humankind’s hearts and that problem is sin and until this world is purged in the 2nd judgment (by fire) sin will remain and so will injustice, violence, hatred and all manner of atrocities. It doesn’t mean we as Christians don’t seek to make peace and make right the wrongs in this world but those problems will never go away until the return of Christ – we will be constantly fighting them.
To have Christ and nothing else is to be eternally rich.
True love is the son of God hanging on a cross for ungrateful sinners
One thing I have noticed about many modern “progressive” churches today is that they just have to sing a ton of songs to really connect with God. This needs to be re-taught. Where did we get the idea that worship = singing anyway? Singing is definitely part of it and I’m not saying it’s somehow wrong but it is only a small part of it and it should not be overdone. Every part of the service is worship. Every part of my life is worship. Everything I do is worship. Limiting those songs will make lots of people leave the church in droves that’s for sure.
In order to get something out of the Word of God you need to approach it with an open and teachable heart, earnest prayer and a notepad and pen.
Absolutely everything in our lives must conform to the image of Christ.
As a Christian, you are going to fall at times. You’re going to slip and slide. Don’t be discouraged! Pick yourself up, learn and keep going! God can really use these tough times to help you grow and make you more conformed to His image. I want you to know that even older Christians struggle. We were never promised an easy way. It’s going to be a hard slog.
It doesn’t matter whether you feel inadequate or unworthy to be of service in the Lord’s army. We don’t have to wait to be perfect before God can use us. All we need to do is say “Here I am Lord, use me!” God uses sinful, imperfect, frail, frightened people to accomplish His will. Lack the courage? Ask God for it! Lack the desire? Examine yourself and pray. Be blessed and encouraged brothers and sisters!
As children of God, every one of us are ambassadors for Christ. We are all called to ministry. It’s not an option, it’s a directive from our Commander-in-Chief just like how basic training is mandatory in the military but specialist skills are not necessarily. However, God has given each of us different tasks… different “hills to die on” so to speak. For some it may be street evangelism or witnessing in a foreign land. For others it may be fighting for our right to liberty and freedom. For some it may be speaking up for the disadvantaged such as the unborn, the aged, the homeless, the vulnerable, the desperate. And for others it may be taking the opportunity to witness to their next door neighbours or showing a needy soul the love of Christ through warm hospitality, an open heart and a listening ear. But whatever we do, it must be done for the glory of God and the advancement of His kingdom because that’s why we are here on this earth.
Baptism, good works, the sacraments, religious traditions, singing songs and going to church will not save you…EVER! Only the blood of Christ can do that. You have to repent of your sin and put your faith in Christ’s finished work on the Cross as the only way that your sin could be atoned for.
True surrender is laying your pride, arrogance and selfishness at the foot of the Cross in humility and saying “Lord, I give my life wholly to you. I want to do what you want me to do. Help me live for you everyday. Everything that I deemed as mine is no longer mine – my life, talents, possessions, time, future – everything is now yours. You are now my Master and I am your willing servant. Use every part of me in service for your Kingdom”.
There is such a thing as “depraved indifference”. As Christians many of us (and I dare say the great majority of the evangelical church) are guilty of this. Instead of being ambassadors for Christ we are silent! Are our hearts grieved by the injustice and evil in this world? Do we do something practical about it? Do we fight to abolish abortion? Do we care about the homeless? The enslaved? The mistreated? The widows and orphans? Or do we make excuses and think that sitting in our pews and praying will solve all problems? This is not to say that prayer is not important however God has commanded us to do our bit as soldiers of the Cross. He wants to see real action as well as prayer! Being a child of God means that we must gain an understanding of our Heavenly Father’s heart. We must be grieved by the things He is grieved about otherwise we have a real problem with ourselves – we are radically indifferent and apathetic. May God wake up the Church from it’s slumber of apathy and indifference.
There is a very real sense in which we as Christians can do all manner of good works and be totally sold out to a particular cause yet if we fail to do it with a loving attitude it doesn’t profit us anything.
Life is full of storms but all storms come to an end. Hang in there and wait it out.
There is a real sense in which we can become dead to the depravity and sinfulness of our hearts even as Christians. It is a very fearful thing to fall into that state of indifference. May we be constantly aware of the sin in our lives and be driven to our knees before God recognizing our need for continual repentance and humble confession.
We are not saved because of any good works or merit that we have done. We are only His because of what He has done for us.
We definitely need to spend more time on our knees. That’s the only we can truly get close to the heart of God. There’s no shortcuts or easy routes. Just simple real genuine heart-to-hearts with God.
One of the reasons why God allows us to encounter so much failure in our lives is to teach us that of our ownselves we are nothing but dust. We are feeble, frail creatures standing in the presence of God. This should drive us to our knees in humility and worship and praise his great power.
God uses the weak, the insignificant, the unpopular, the despised, the ineloquent, the broken-hearted, the poor in spirit…. and He takes these people, molds and shapes them and then uses them for His purposes. There is no reason to ever be discouraged or feel like a total failure. God can use you and He HAS a purpose for you! All you need to do is be willing and ready to answer the call.
The question is not “do you want to go to heaven?”, it’s “do you want Christ?”… do you want to know Him and do you hate the sin in your life?
Don’t draw your joy and peace from your performance but rather draw it from Christ’s finished work! Then and only then will your joy will be fixed, unshakeable and solid as a rock! For as long as your joy, peace and comfort comes from your performance and popularity, you will inevitably spend the rest of your days a miserable person.
The love of Christ was tremendously stronger than the nails that bound Him to that rugged cross. It is not because of any merit of our own doing or because of any good work that our hands have committed. It is only through what He has graciously, mercifully and lovingly done for us and through repentance and saving faith in Him, that we can stand here today as blood washed, redeemed, forgiven, valued children of God. The sentence has been paid, our case has been dismissed, justice has been satisfied and we are now legally declared free men. The gap of enmity between God and man has been bridged and we can now come boldly (albeit not flippantly) to the throne of grace. All of that is a gift of God and absolutely nothing that man can boast of conjuring up through his own efforts as pious and great as those may seem.
Will it be said of your life that “this man walked with God”? Or “this man lived for himself”? I would rather choose the former than the latter.
Following Christ begins by taking up your cross daily.
As Christians, we have not been called to be popular, to be accepted by men and to be held in esteem by men. We have not been called to be great, powerful, smart or wise in our own eyes. We have been called to be conformed to the image of Christ… to love the things He loves and hate the things He hates. We have been called to deny self daily and take up our cross and follow Him. We have been called to stand for truth unwaveringly… to be willing to be shamed and persecuted for the sake of Christ and perhaps even to die for His name. That is the radical call of the Gospel. Are you willing to take up the challenge?
Disappointments are God’s way of saying He’s got something better for us. We just have to trust Him!
Hope can always rise from the ashes of failure.
