Do you know where you are going when you die? When you leave this planet that we call home?
What if your heart were to stop beating tonight, what if you were to breathe your very last breath?
154,000 people around the globe die EACH DAY! That’s 107 people a minute or 2 per second! The great majority of these people will die in their sins! What about you? If you are one of these people who is not born again of God, who has not repented, who is not living out the truths in God’s word, then sadly you are destined for Hell.
My question to you is: “Where will you spend eternity? In Heaven or Hell?” I want you to think about your destiny because it it is so important. It does matter. It is not a quaint or petty thing to disregard.
I am going to preach to you as a dying man to dying people because this is a message of urgency. It’s as though you were driving head on towards the edge of a very tall cliff. Do you think I would stand by, watch and say nothing? No! It would be wrong for me not to warn you… wrong for me to go against my moral duty and obligation to warn you of the imminent danger. I would be shouting at the top of my lungs warning you of the danger ahead! And it is the same with what I’m doing right now, I’m lovingly warning you of the danger ahead if you continue speeding along on the road that leads to destruction… the path of sin that has eternal consequences if you do not repent of it.
But you say to me, “Wait but I’m a good person!”
I want to tell you something. We are all sinners… from the time we are born to the time we die. There is nothing good in us… NOTHING AT ALL! Not one single bit! We are told of this in Scripture, the Word of God – God’s infallible message to mankind “But we are all like an unclean thing, And all our righteousnesses (good works) are like filthy rags; (Isaiah 64:6)
In other words, we are dirty, rotten, wretched, filthy sinners before a Holy God destined for the fires of Hell.
It doesn’t matter what good works or deeds that you have done in your life. It doesn’t matter whether you think you are a good person. All of mankind has fallen short of God’s holy standard, the Ten Commandments – i.e. you shall not steal, you shall not lie, you shall not commit adultery (which also includes looking at women with lust), and because of that, the wages or the price of sin is death. So in other words because of our sin we deserve to die.
That is why the world is in the horrible mess that it is in today because mankind has disobeyed God’s very reasonable and logical commandments that are in place for our own good and the peace, harmony and wellbeing of society. Instead man wanted to do the total opposite and rebel against God’s laws.
Romans 3:23 says “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”
Regardless whether you think you’re a good person, breaking just one of God’s laws is enough to send you to hell.
The unrepentant person’s sins separates Him from a Holy God. That is why God had to send his only Son… His beloved Son to bridge that gap between us and God because of our ownselves we would not have access to God. Jesus Christ was the ONLY one who could do that.
Let me give you an analogy. Let’s say that you are caught for going over the speed limit. The judge convicts you of being guilty of this crime and serves out the sentence. But then he steps down from his bench, takes of his wig and coat, pulls out his wallet and hands the clerk the fine – he pays for it instead of you! Justice has been legally satisfied and you can now walk off free! I know this is a very poor illustration but I hope it gives you a sense of appreciation of what Christ did for you.
God sent His holy, spotless son into this world 2000 years ago with a purpose: to take upon himself the full weight of the sin and guilt of each one of us. He lived a holy life on this earth for 33 years. He lived and preached and healed the sick and did all manner of good things. Everything He did was perfect. He did not sin one bit. But the people of His day hated Him! He gave himself over to Roman soldiers, was given a mock trial and sentenced to die on a cross under trumped up charges of “blasphemy”! He took upon Himself the punishment that we justly and rightfully deserved. He was scourged (whipped) beyond recognition for our sins! He was spat upon. He was mocked. The holy spotless Son of God was ridiculed! He had a crown of thorns smashed onto His head. Then He went willingly to His place of death on a Cross to die for us! He was then buried in a rich man’s tomb by a handful of His devout followers and then he arose from the grave defeating death 3 days later and is now seated at the right hand of the Father in Heaven.
I want you to think about something. Jesus Christ did not have to die for us. In fact He could have sent us all to Hell and He would still be just because He would be giving us the sentence that we deserved for the crimes that we had committed.
It says in the Bible, Isaiah chapter 53 verse 5, “He was crushed for our iniquities!” The full weight of our sins and guilt was placed upon Him. HE WAS CRUSHED! He was forsaken by His own father! God the father poured out the wrath that we so deserved upon his dearly beloved Son… for us wretched sinners! God’s mercy and love for us was great enough to even bother to send His Son to die for us! Such love… such mercy… such grace!
If this doesn’t bring you to your knees in humility before God, I don’t know what will.
Through Christ’s sacrifice on the Cross for us, our sins can now be atoned for… justice has been served. We can have access to the free gift of live in Heaven with God if we will repent or turn away from our sin and put our faith and trust in Jesus Christ and His finished work on the Cross.
Repent of your sin today because you may not have tomorrow to do it! Put your faith in Christ alone. Confess your sin before God and ask His forgiveness. Then live a life of holiness and obedience towards Christ. Read your Bible, pray and ask for God’s help and direction! Find a church that follows Scriptural teachings. If you read your Bible and pray you will be able to discern which churches are false and which ones are true. The Lord will truly transform your life because if this is truly a work of God, the Scripture says that “he who has begun a good work in you will see it through to completion.”
