Isaiah 40:31 (NKJV)
“But those who wait on the Lord
Shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings like eagles,
They shall run and not be weary,
They shall walk and not faint.”
Psalm 40:1 (NKJV)
“I waited patiently for the Lord;
And He inclined to me,
And heard my cry.”
Psalm 27:14 (NKJV)
“Wait on the Lord;
Be of good courage,
And He shall strengthen your heart;
Wait, I say, on the Lord!”
Too often in life, we want things to happen right now…we want clear direction for God for the future, we want God to give us a good job, we want Him to show us our future spouses, we want Him to deliver us from a trial or tribulation and the list could go on and on…but sometimes we just need to be patient – we need to wait – because God will bring it to pass in His will and timing.
We live in a world that rushes things and favours instant gratification over waiting patiently. Whether it’s waiting in line at the supermarket, waiting for the right spouse, waiting for fast food at the drive-thru, waiting at the traffic lights or whatever… waiting is even more counter-cultural in today’s world than ever before.
Waiting can be so hard and I know that from personal experience in my own life. Patience and trust in God are both virtues that we all need in our lives.
But we need to wait on the Lord, we need to be patient and we need to trust in His sovereign plan for our lives.
If we rush into things in life, we can make huge mistakes that have heartbreaking consequences. We need to wait on the Lord, take each step one at a time and trust His faithfulness in the process.
If you are waiting on the Lord, God will strengthen your heart and soul in your time of waiting… and oh what a blessing that is – to receive strength from our faithful and loving Heavenly Father!
So the next time you feel impatient, I encourage you to wait on the Lord, wait for His direction, His timing is perfect, trust in Him and He will bring it to pass (Psalm 37:5).
